About me
Jeeone Han is an artist and painter based in Chicago, IL. Born in Seoul, Korea and immigrating to the US, her work builds on the continuum of cultures shaping identity. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in Psychology and Studio Art.
As I paint, I enjoy morphing recognizable objects into vivid realms that reflect the complexities embedded in our surroundings. Diasporic memory is central to my art, as my dreamscapes represent the conflicts of assimilation and preservation of Asian and Western traditions. My work aims to reflect the disorienting human experience of cultural integration, merging personal and collective stories into one space.
As I create, my personal iconography builds and guides me through a world of limitless avenues. I am fascinated by the process of how objects become belongings through every interaction they have with humans, becoming a naturally woven history of memory, systems, culture, and class. This exploration of what lies beyond the obvious continues to surprise me, revealing unexpected connections within my work. With this process, my paintings become an intuitive story map experience, embracing a journey through layers of curiosity, whimsy and tension.
Through this nuanced narrative, I invite you to see the world where every object becomes a vessel of memory, encouraging reflection on our own connections to the tangible world around us.
Jeeone currently works alongside the Raud Fine Art Gallery in Chicago to advocate for immigrant and underrepresented artists to nurture accessibility in the arts community.
